Getting into the Spirit of the Season

Receiving the Christmas ornament from Steph's parents inspired me to decorate for Christmas this year. I really didn't think I wanted to be too participatory this year, but halfway through last week, I became determined to continue on with tradition, or possibly create my own new traditions.

I advised James that this weekend would NOT be one of leisure. I had tasked buying a Christmas tree, decorating, visiting a friend's block businesses Christmas Open house on South First Street, and attending the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar because one of my favorite Austin folksingers was playing from 3:30pm-6pm.

So here's our day:
I had to coerce James to wake up by 10am. We finally got on our way to Lowe's and purchased a Christmas tree. Lowe's was my choice based upon the advice of Steph: "good tree value for your money." Purchased a few ornaments and a stand. Then braved Wal-Mart. Actually, it wasn't too overwhelming. Then on to lunch at Maudie's (my treat since I AM bribing James for his help...).

Came home and set up the tree. On to South First Street. (We really needed some MOP hair products which is our favorite - we prefer the Mixed Greens Conditioner.) Anyway....then on to Armadillo Christmas Bazaar and watched Eliza Gilkyson perform. I really like her music. She epitomizes Austin folk music in my opinon. She had us so mellow, I was ready to get home and DECORATE.

So we get home - love on the cat - and James promptly falls asleep on the couch. Again, I have to coerce him to help decorate and we do a wonderful job with the Christmas tree and decorations. And the first ornament placed on the tree was the New Home Ornament from Joan & Karl. It has a special place in front.
