Programming Savant

savant - a person who is highly knowledgeable about one subject, but knows little about anything else. *Thank you Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary: www.m-w.com

If this whole Accounting thing doesn't work out for me, I should become a Programmer. I actually figured out how to program James' wireless adapter that I bought him for Christmas for his [formerly Meagan's] Toshiba laptop. And it wasn't even reading the directions that got the laptop connected. Or going to the Linksys help site "knowledge base". It was plain old-fashioned try-it-and-if-it-doesn't-break-or-blow-up-the-laptop mentality that has me currently updating my blog from the Toshiba, and not my beloved Dell.

Because I just couldn't figure out what Network Key meant, or just exactly what WEP really stood for. (I still don't.) Apparently, (or not so apparent) these are necessary for wireless network connnectivity. But thankfully, I [somehow intuitively] knew to look at my router adminstration and read that the words "WEP" and "key" were together on a page with 10 numbers listed beside it, and once I realized (it was like the lightbulb came on) that 64-bit encryption means that there are 10 digits needed, that this was all it took to update the WEP Network Key needed for the wireless adapter to connect to the wireless router.

And Voila! The Toshiba has network connectivity to the Internet. Damn I'm good!
