What I learned today

After my extensive conversation with my freshman roommate from college this evening, I realized something. Kids these days are a lot smarter than I was.

Kristen was telling me about her kids and their passion for Santa Claus. And how she has to make certain that she gets different wrapping paper from "Santa", and that the writing must be done in a marker, as well as "different handwriting" than Mommy or Daddy's.

WHAT?!? Are you kidding me? Either I was just plain ignorant, or I couldn't see very well with my glasses before I got contacts in 1977, but I had NO IDEA that Santa's wrapping paper matched the same ones under the tree.

You see, I'm the same child that fell down just while walking down the aisle in The Bookstore. The poor soul who needed dancing lessons just so my mother wouldn't be embarrassed at my lack of coordination. By the way, I still have that lack of coordination, I've just learned to steady myself or just run into doorjambs frequently.

Believing in Santa Claus sure is magical. And I never got to experience the magic until I put in my contacts first.
