Oscar gonna knock you out

Last week, I let Oscar out one last time before we went to bed. And I heard a great ruckus outside with caterwauling. And when I flipped on the outside light, Oscar hit the cat door so fast, I didn't know where he came from and ran under the guest bed and wouldn't come out for thirty minutes. I didn't think anything of it until the next night, I felt a lump. I investigated thinking it was matted hair, but it turned out to be an infected area on his underside. I called the vet, but was not able to get in until today. And since he seemed to be doing okay - eating well, still pestering me early morning, and playing a bit - I wasn't too concerned.

So this morning we went to the vet. Oscar was shaved after the vet did think he had a deep-seated infection. Upon closer investigation, it turns out that Oscar was bitten by another cat from that night and we could see the 4 bite marks. One bite sank in deeper and caused the infection under his skin. So, after a thorough cleaning by the vet, a shot of antibiotic, some topical ointment, and just a bit of growling by Oscar to the vet and her tech, we were sent on our merry way. I did tell the vet that I thought he was a bit of a wussy...coming into the house and hiding like that. Surely he's big enough (15 lbs!) to kick some feline furry butt. And the vet laughed at me, saying that most of the times the infection shows up on the rear end of the cat, because as they are leaving the scene of the crime, the other cat takes one last swipe! So apparently, since Oscar had no other visible scratches or wounds, he was rolling over and over with the other cat, hence the wound on his stomach. And, we don't know what the other cat looked like!

Maybe I should name in Rocky. Yo Adrienne!
