The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mich Albom
I came across this book as one of the most recommended books for 2004 on Amazon. So I put it on my wishlist. It's a book about death, and how important you are on this earth, and how certain things that happened in this world shape you and you meet 5 people who explain things to you that you may or may not have known. So of course death was something that piqued my interest, even though I was really apprehensive about reading it. Because I am not sure I am ready to handle emotional reading. It's a subject that interests me, and since I'm not 100% sure I'm ready to do self-therapy on why I want to stay away from it as well, I decided to put it on the wishlist as an option.
And then Kristen (my Baylor freshman roommate) recommended it to me, and I thought it must be a sign that it was destined for me to read it sooner rather than later. So I used Jimmy's Barnes & Noble gift certificate to help my cause for books to read. I came home that Sunday and started reading it that night. And I came to the preface page and I started to cry due to some poignant comments made by the author. (So now how was I going to read this book?) And I continued on. And read it in less than 3 hours that night. And cried, and laughed, and enjoyed it immensely.
It met my criteria for books. A book is considered a "good" book to me when it affects me so much that I continue to think about it long after I've finished it, and am even reading other books. So if you are interested in reading it, I've got it available. Because you know I don't know how to keep books. I just read them and pass them along for others to enjoy.
