Bettin' on the Ponies

So my brother and sister-in-law David & Debbie from Sealy, TX called me last night to let me know that they were coming to Manor Downs to race their quarterhorse "Guerrero Negro". So I decided to meet them, since I never get to see them and get a first-hand look at horse racing.

Well, I can't say much about Manor Downs. Debbie assured me that the Sam Houston Racepark was a little bit "nicer" than Manor Downs, but that they had won some money previously before in Manor. And I got to see the ponies get saddled, jockied, and into place. And I placed my $10 on the family horse (because it seemed superstitious not to.) But, with a 21:1 odds of winning, it wasn't meant to be. Guerrero Negro had a stumbling start which caused him to be pushed out of line and he had to make it up by coming around to the inside. And he just kind of lost steam after that. So he came in around 7th.

But I am a little bit afraid. I'm afraid that I like the thrill and anticipation of racing. And, when you only put down an Alexander Hamilton, you don't feel too bad about losing.
