Doing a Good Deed

Last year, I participated in the 2004 SafePlace Walk, which was a walk to support the end of domestic violence and abuse. This event was organized by a co-worker and several of us participated. I asked for donations from friends and family and even managed to raise about $300, which earned me a t-shirt commemorating the event. And how did I know that I did the right thing? It was when I saw the group (made up of family and friends) who were walking in memory of a women who was shot and killed in her work parking lot early December 2003 by her zealous ex-boyfriend, that I knew I was doing the right community service. To this day, it still means something to me that I walked last year.

But 2005 was a little bit busier and more hectic and I just admit that I didn't take the time to participate in the SafePlace walk. But thanks to the Austinist bloggers for reminding that the walk is tomorrow. So I donated some money. It's the least I could do.
