Movie Reviews

Yeah...it was one of those days. Didn't feel much like getting out of the house so I rented more videos.

The first one fit the cartoon, Saturday afternoon requirement. I watched Robots, mainly because it had Robin Williams in it, but also because I have a sneaking suspicion that it might get nominated for an Academy Award for animation, so I wanted to see what it was about. Cute story about a robot that makes something of himself. But I was more awed by the creativity that they put into the world of robots, or how they perceive it should be. There is a scene where the main robot gets onto a train, and it's more like a roller coaster. Looked like fun.

The second one fit my chick flick category: Beauty Shop. I have watched both of the Barbershop movies with Ice Cube and have thoroughly enjoyed them. This was the women's take on a beauty salon. All women understand the salon: gossip, makeup, hair, advice, opinions. It's what makes the comraderie and community feel so popular with a salon. I especially admire Queen Latifah and think she's just a well-rounded woman: music, Cover Girl model, acting (did you see her in Chicago? She shined in that movie.) My favorite part in the whole movie is when she asks her little girl if the pants she has on makes her butt look big? Her little girl replies, "of course"...and Queen responds "PERFECT!" You GO gyrrl! She's a woman both for real & in this movie who is comfortable with her self worth. This movie also stresses the importance of friendship. A feel good movie, if you will.
