Book Review
I accepted The Nanny Diaries from Steph as fluff reading. You know how I am about reading escapism books. This story was well told about affluent New York City people who hire a nanny to take care of their child. “Take care of” would be an understatement. “Raise their child” explains it better. We get to hear about how “the other half” live and their excessive spending habits, ridiculous attitudes about people who work for them, and their lack of feeling towards their offspring, as well as high expectations. The family the nanny describes to us is a bit appalling, as the father is having an affair, and the wife is acting like a torrid sexpot trying to win him back, and then using ulterior motives to get her way. The nanny character, the main character, is a character I like, but really feel that she should have put her foot down long before things ended with the family. Well, I can talk big because I would never have wanted to become a nanny in the first place, so what do I know. The hardest thing for the nanny is her attachment to the young child. Which, I can see why it’s hard letting go and moving on.
