Death of an Ex-President

Baylor Ex-President Herbert H. Reynolds passed away at age 77 on May 25.

He was the President of Baylor during my tenure. To me, he was a celebrity and larger than life.

I have 2 memories of Herb.

The first, when I was a young lass of 17, not yet entered into Baylor passed by him at the Skaggs Alpha Beta grocery store on Valley Mills Drive in Waco. He nodded to me, and said hello, and I stopped in my tracks, in AWE that he acknowledged me.

My second memory, was during Welcome Week freshman orientation. The main point I remembered during his welcome speech was that Baylor did not condone pre-marital sex. Uhoh. I thought I was going to be in BIG trouble for that one. But, thankfully, I passed through Baylor unmindful of any judgment or discrimination others might have had of my social life of drinking and partying. I learned how to make the BEST margarita - see what college education gets you besides a piece of paper on the wall? Real life experiences.

R.I.P Herb. You'll be missed as a pretty darn good prez.

Two things:

1. I can testify to the B.D.M. (best damn margarita) recipe

2. It is just too darn sad that Herb left this world without tasting one.
