Every year, I get a physical. Because at my age you can never go wrong with preventive maintenance.
Last year, my bloodwork came back with high triglycerides & high TSH, which the TSH translated into hypothyroidism.
This year, my bloodwork came back with high triglycerides, slightly high TSH (depending on who you ask what the normal range is), above normal, slightly high blood pressure, and "prediabetes" blood sugar. Over the normal range, yet under the diabetic limit. All these are signs of diabetes & hypertension (excluding the thyroid, which is genetic - thanks to the maternal heritage).
And I keep hearing my Dr's mantra: diet & exercise, diet & exercise, diet & exercise.
Well, DUH! Since I am 3o lbs. overweight, that's considered obese by medical standards.
My Dr. really didn't have much to say about the blood sugar & blood pressure, but I think she's optimistic that I'll try to lose some weight which should help my medical issues.
I go back to see her for my thyroid as she upped my dosage in 6 weeks. I'd like to go back on Sept 10 at least 10 lbs lighter.
That would be a good thing.

Aloha A,
You may wish to consider something like the South Beach Diet. Not too crazy with the fats, good carbs (but low carb), fresh veggies. It's pretty easy to follow once you get the hang of it, No sugar, no processed foods, no whites (processed flour, bread, pasta, potatoes). Not nearly as drastic as it sounds. I've lost over 40 pounds in three months and I don't feel deprived and like I'm really "dieting". And of course exercise. You definately want to do all you can to avoid diabetes now. Once you get it there is no turning back, which was one of my main goals in finally addressing my weight issues. Good Luck!
