Starting off the New Year

I don't know about you, but I'm superstitious. I knock on wood and throw salt over my shoulder, nor do I walk under ladders.

So for New Year's Day, I try to make sure that those black-eyed peas are on a fork going into my mouth at a fast rate so I can get started with luck. Oh, and cabbage (greens) for money. I also like to throw in something sweet for happiness. That's my own superstition, but my sweet tooth figures it can't hurt.

Well, as I was cutting the cabbage, before any partaking of the black-eyed peas, I promptly sliced my right hand with this. (Thanks, Tari - I finally get to use it, and then I don't pay it the proper attention it needs.) Yes, blood everywhere. I got to the kitchen sink, washed it out, then paper towels to staunch the bleeding. I put my hand over my head, turn around and am woozy.

Off to N.Austin Medical Center ER. 2 hours later, I have 4 stitches in my right index finger, located at the joint connected to my palm. Besides feeling like a klutzy idiot, I'm not typing at my usual 85 wpm.

Current condition:
Right index finger slightly throbbing.
Bandaged, wrapped in gauze around a splint. Bulky and cumbersome.
No water/washing right hand for 24 hrs. Washed hair in sink. Bath in the morning.
Splint & stitches for 7-10 days.
Re-dress bandages twice a day.
Ibuprofen for pain. Bacitracin over gaping, stitched up wound. No, I did NOT watch the Dr. stitch it up. Feel woozy just thinking about it...

And that cup-half-full optimism? At least it wasn't my left hand!

as long as CSI doesn't spray it with any of that glo-stuff, you should be clear of any homicides in the area
