Here it is now 7pm Sunday night. I've spent the majority of my Sunday completing the candy & cookie making venture I decided to undertake. HALLELUJAH.
Don't get me wrong. I knew what I was getting myself into when I decided to do this. I had just decided to celebrate Christmas, when I decided make candy & cookies as well. This was my continuation of honoring Mom. We made candy every year - even one of the photos at the funeral service was one of us when I was five with long braids and glasses and we are standing in the kitchen at the farm in San Felipe with a tray of Christmas cookies we had just baked. I do believe that started our tradition of doing this on a yearly basis. We even made candy last year. So it seemed only fitting that I continue this tradition.
So my repertoire consists of Famous Fudge, Brown Sugar Candy, Rocky Road Fudge, Bourbon Balls, and Sugar Cookies. All but the cookies were taken from her recipes that we had used since I can remember, most likely even before then.
I've made the cookies and candy over a 2-weekend period. I've stuffed tin cans and labeled them. And I'm giving them to my co-workers, and James is taking his fair share to his work.
So if you are a recipient of my candy and cookies this year, consider it a labor of love.
