While at the grocery store, James asked me if I had ever eaten a pummelo. "A what?" Pummelo. It's sorta like a grapefruit. Since my interest as piqued, and this was coming from the same man who never had asparagus until he met Joanne, I was game. So today, we opened it, and it was, well, different.
James said it was sweeter and milder than a grapefruit. And, since I'm partial to grapefruit, I had to disagree. It was just more fibrous. And chewy. And since it's hard for me to eat oranges because of what I call the cartilage, the pummelo just didn't impress me. But I stood up to my motto which is to always taste something first. Try it. You just might like it.
We bought the pummelo at H.E.B. And since I do live in Texas, I just assumed that it was a Mexican fruit. WRONG. I looked up the pummelo on the internet, and apparently, it's ASIAN in history. Also, it appears that the pummelo is the largest citrus fruit. Hmmm....it seems that the pummelo is good for a little bit of useless known information.
