For Oscar, it takes about one day. Currently, I'm fairly low on his list, which, isn't a very extensive list as it really only consists of food, sleeping, clean cat litter, going outside to birdwatch, and 100% attention by me.
It started when I left him overnight to attend the ASWA conference. His catsitter told me that he was watching out the guest bedroom window to see "who was it this time" or "which lucky person gets to feed me tonight". I came in briefly Friday night, only to leave again for movie & pizza. Then Saturday was THE DAY. V-E-T trip. We don't say it out loud in this household for fear of comprehension. Saturday was the yearly visit for check-up and vaccinations. My cat was pretty unhappy. Usually, getting into the cat carrier is not too bad, but I didn't lock it correctly, and we had jail break and a chase to get back into the carrier. I bribed with Pounce kitty treats, but once he was in the carrier glaring at me, I gave him more which he proceeded to ignore.
When we got home Saturday, Oscar promptly went outside and neglected me all day. Didn't even really come him to visit when the girls came over for our girl night. And then, when we got home, didn't even sleep with me most of the night. He conceded only because he stomped around on my guest and was kicked out of the guest bedroom around 6am. At that, he only slept at the foot of my bed, as far away as possible.
But today, we've made up. He's allowed me to give as much attention as I'd like, and he's following me around the house as I do house chores. I've been forgiven.
