Diet Killer

Just when you try to be good on your healthy living plan, there are always things that literally throw themselves in front of you as insurmountable obstacles.

I was doing really good this evening. Eating a plum for dessert and having basmati rice & turkey cutlets. Plus, showing considerable restraint by not having a breakfast taco at work this morning.

And then Ellen starts her Season 5 shows. And I'm watching Thursday's episode with Paula Deen. The Food Network southern cooking diva. She's like a crazy and outrageous aunt that is just a bit loony, but more than loveable as your heroine. Paula makes no apologies that her cooking is not low in fat or calories, so you always know what you're getting in a recipe!

Paula's recipe is a bread pudding dish. And as they take a commercial break, I think to myself -no problem! I'm not that into bread pudding, but it will be interesting to watch. OF COURSE IT WAS INTERESTING TO WATCH! She made it with KRISPY KREME DONUTS! I'm not kidding. And the amount of condensed milk with the Butter Rum Sauce she added to the donuts to make a very easy bread pudding dessert had my blood sugar zooming immediately.

And I have to mention that her measurements for the rum called for in the sauce is "to taste". Whatever could that mean! And Paula cracked me up when she was tearing up the donuts. She'd take a bite, then put a piece in the bowl, take another bite and so on. She suggested that you buy more than the recommended 2 dozen donuts for the recipe! I guess so! And I'm also guessing that "to taste" is open to interpretation as well!

So here's the diet killer recipe that could have me falling off the wagon with a craving for Krispy Kremes and rum: Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding with Butter Rum Sauce.

Gotta love Paula "Pass-me-the-butter" Deen. But jeez.. can you say, "cholesterol" or better yet, "heart disease"? I bet you need a roto rooter to get through that woman's arteries...
