Here's a new concept. I'm going to review movies as well on my blog! I'm sure hardly anyone does that these days. Actually, it was a suggestion by Steph. To my friends who know me, I'm a closet DVD movie watcher. It started back in my Charleston, SC days when I worked too much, had no friends, and less money so my entertainment to get me out of the house was to go to Blockbuster and rent 3 movies for the weekend.
My weekend lineup is usually like this:
Friday night: Action
Saturday morning or evening: Comedy or Family (cartoons, drama, dra-medy)
Sunday morning: the heavy thinkers. yeah - not sure what that's about, but it's when I usually watch the indie movies.
So I'm going to start with this weekend. Of course, I've already watched 2 movies:
Sin City: Loved the comic book concept and the coloring of the scenes. Quentin Tarantino directed one scene, and I could have sworn he had a hand in some others. The movie was a series of comic book vignettes that came together to complete the movie. But, it got a bit long, and a tad violent (think Kill Bill meets cartoon). But, I liked it - something different from my usual genre of movies.
Because of Winn-Dixie: okay - I admit it. I love watching kid movies. I especially like watching cartoon movies (Antz, Shrek, Shark Tales, etc.etc.) and have no longer made it my mission to only watch with kids as an excuse. I'm an adult now - I take responsibility for my actions. This movie was done very well. It is based upon a book - which, surprisingly, I've not read. The dog is a wonderful character and helps a little girl get acquainted with a new town. Dave Matthews is in this movie, and while not a stellar actor, still liked him in this role. This movie had music, religion, friendship, sorrow, and bridging the age gap between adults and children. I highly recommend this movie as a good movie to watch, especially a story with morals to learn. Yes, it's for kids, but not bad for adults.
DVD has become the bane of my movie existence. If a movie is really good, I'll watch all the extras that come on it, making my 2 hr movie experience twice as long. But if the movie sucks, I don't even bother. I also am an IMDB.com member, and learned just this weekend that there are statistics and demographics (that totally appeals to my accounting mind!) for movies that are rated!
So, I'm settling in for the rest of my weekend. I really like the weekends where I just piddle around the house and watch movies. This is one of those weekends.
