Another Weekend Update

I realize it's been a whole 2 weeks since the last update. Not much going on - but the weekends seem to be interesting, at least to me.

My weekend with David. Or rather, “Girl Weekend”. Since David is gay, he doesn’t mind me posting that.

I begged David to be my date to see Live in concert. They were playing at La Zona Rosa and since Steph, my usual Live concert partner was away in France, I needed someone who would go with me and appreciate their music.

David is my former boss. He & I are great friends, mostly because he believed in my Accounting skills, even though I hadn’t seen Debits or Credits since the college years. But also because he and I were together in Georgetown when the planes hit the Pentagon, and the World Trade Center. We took the last car from DC and did our Big Adventure Home after 9/11. We’re great travel buddies. Plus, I spent the night with his family in Tyler as we were traveling through, so I’m practically family!

We camped out at Bastrop State Park. Yes, I went camping. Tent, air mattress, sleeping bag, etc. “Roughing it”. I highly recommend the park for hiking trails and for the peacefulness of sleeping under the Lost Pines. Being a light sleeper, I didn’t sleep very well. Especially to some evil bird cawing over our tent at the wee hours of dawn, and a woodpecker in our midst. But can I brag on my culinary skills? I have a Grill To Go and grilled us marinated chicken breasts, Roasted potatoes in Garlic & Rosemary, a salad dressed with Red Wine Vinaigrette. And for dessert?!? S’mores! David had never had S’mores so it was my duty to properly introduce him to fire, marshmallows, chocolate & graham crackers. The best dessert ever.

Sunday was the concert, and even though David didn’t really know who Live was, he recognized a number of their songs. They even played “Mental Jewelry” from their first album. That was worth the whole show. They put on a great performance, and La Zona Rosa is a great venue for being up close and personal.

It was a great weekend, and I thank David for coming to play with me. I needed it!
